Room Prep: Under Layout Storage

 The new layout will occupy the basement of the new house. A certain amount of storage will be REQUIRED to be located in the train room, under the layout. My plans are for exceedingly narrow benchwork in the majority of the layout in order to devote more room to the aisles. Long stretches of layout, back to back, each side of a central view block, will make up these peninsulas. This might only create under-layout storage spaces of about 24” wide. What I hope to do is build wheeled carts that will fit under the layout, and be east to roll out. Items for storage will be placed on these “Carts”, which can then be rolled under the layout, hopefully out of sight, probably behind a curtain, for concealment. The carts can also be rolled out for easy access to the underside of the layout for wiring, switch machines, maintenance.  These carts would simply be a flat piece of plywood, with wheels screwed to the underside.
