Train Registers and Register Locations
While icing my back after a thrilling day of installing hardwood flooring I thought I’d talk about train registers.
Train registers are instrumental in TTTO operations. Trains waiting to depart can check the register to ascertain if all opposing SUPERIOR trains have indeed arrived. The rule book dictates specifically where registers need to be placed, but alas I do it have my rule book handy at the moment, so you will have to take my word for it. Registers need to be at any station where trains originate or terminate, any Sub-division boundary, and anywhere two main tracks reduce to one main track.
My registers were located at East Littlerock Tower, Pettigrew , Webster Springs, and Moss*.
My registers were printed on a single sheet of paper, but were divided into Eastbound and Westbound sides. They were mounted on a clipboard as opposed to a bound book.
On AIR2 I plan pretty much the same operation.
I did not place registers at Jct.’s where branches connected with the main track. At these points I used the Clearance Form A, which has a section for noting superior trains due at the location the clearance is issued. I could have placed a register at this location, but that would have had through trains stopping at additional points to sign registers. On AIR 2, with the lengthened mainline run this may not be a problem, but we will have to see.

*East Littlerock was the yard limits at Littlerock yard and was the west end of the layout; Pettigrew was the Jct. Where the Deepwater line diverged from the Littlerock Sub; Webster Springs was the east end of the layout; Moss was where trains on the Deepwater line entered and exited South Staging.
